I am writing this paragraph underneath a mosquito net in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls is a tourist destination but one doesn’t have to go very far away from the falls itself to see the enormous need here in Zimbabwe as well as just across the border to Zambia. Malaria, HIV, poverty, starvation, a whole misery generation of people; all these are very common here in Africa. The average lifespan is 31 years old and it’s a tragedy because so much can be done to prevent the present crisis. Crisis prevention starts with people knowing the truth at multiple levels from spiritual understanding of the hope and peace that Jesus brings but also the physical level where everyday needs are provided.

My experience on this trip has been an eye-opener to the crisis in Africa while at the same time there is such a joy in a child’s eyes when you greet them or pass out corn seed to plant crops at local villages. These are just a platform to discuss with people about God’s Kingdom, to discuss that which isn’t seen, to discuss a hope far more important than a mosquito net, and to discuss God’s unending love with them.

Yes, there is a physical need in Africa but as I was discussing with a village leader recently, seeking first His kingdom provides a win-win solution to not only their physical needs but their spiritual ones as well.
