Dear Friend, The ROCK of Africa May outreach team is about to depart for Zimbabwe to deliver hope where hope is running thin. The situation is urgent and we need your help right now! Even if you cannot travel with this outreach team YOU can make a difference in the lives of children facing a very uncertain future! Zimbabwe is in the midst of a medical crisis! HIV/AIDS is killing people by the hundreds of thousands. Malaria continues to be deadly with 20% of children in some regions not living to age 5 due to this preventable disease. For over a year cholera (from polluted water) has taken thousands of lives, and now a deadly measles epidemic is killing many more children! The situation is so serious that a hospital now requires the parents of children to select a funeral home before their child can be admitted! See news story: In a shocking reflection of the dire state of Zimbabwe's healthcare system, Thorngrove Hospital in Bulawayo is turning away patients who refuse to pick a [funeral] parlor before treatment. A mother whose daughter was admitted with measles last month said, "One of the conditions for my daughter to be admitted was that we should indicate which funeral parlor to call when she dies. "I was shocked because I sent her to the hospital so that she gets life," said Siphathisiwe Nyathi, 35. Ms Nyathi's daughter, Sithabiso, – a year six primary-school pupil – later died, according to a report in the state-owned Chronicle newspaper.
